Spaces for connection

I’m Koi, an interior design student at RMIT University. I bring an eye for colour, material and composition, alongside practical experience in retail, gallery environments, floristry and hospitality.

I am interested in interior design as a way of creating meaningful encounters between people and their surroundings. I aim to design spaces that feel intimate, warm, playful and curious. Creating environments that encourage people to wander, notice and form their own relationships with space.

My practice is particularly driven by form, furniture, light and colour, and how these elements shape atmosphere and influence social behaviour. Instead of approaching interiors as purely visual compositions, I am interested in how my designs can create experiences and make people more attentive to where they are and who they are sharing space with.

Questions of queerness, community, privacy and public life are recurring interests within my work. I am drawn to spaces that allow for different forms of occupation and personal encounters rather than prescribing a single way of experiencing them.

Ultimately, I want to create interiors that become a part of people’s memories. To design spaces where the environment itself helps produce moments of intimacy, connection and comfort.
